MKCL
Case study

Building a digital experience for India's next hundred million learners.
Motion design for Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited.
Overview
MKCL is a public digital literacy organisation serving millions of students, citizens, and communities across Maharashtra and beyond. The platform needed to be accessible, clear, and trustworthy, designed for users in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, towns, and villages who may be encountering digital interfaces for the first time. My role was to define the motion language across the experience.
Key Takeaways
A sleek, trend-driven interface would have failed this audience entirely. The design challenge was understanding how people with limited digital exposure process visual information and building a motion language that aided comprehension rather than creating confusion.
Approach
I began by studying how the target audience consumes visual information, what feels familiar, what creates anxiety, and what builds trust. This research directly shaped every motion decision. Animations needed to be simple, predictable, and purposeful, guiding users through the experience without ever surprising or overwhelming them.
Implementation
I designed a motion system that prioritised clarity above all else, straightforward transitions, minimal layering, and interactions that reinforced rather than distracted from the content. Every motion choice was made with one question in mind: Does this help the user understand what to do next?
